Take a look at this fabulous natural playscape, freshly built at the Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. I worked on the Master Plan with director extraordinaire Jim Smith and his creative staff (and ate some good homemade pies in the process), then they were off and running! This spring and summer they teamed up with local builders, plant people and a herd of volunteers to create this fabulous, lively space for all ages and abilities. Good stuff!

OK. Check out this place. One of the great preschools of the world. The kids are indoors – outdoors, whichever they choose. great BIG sand play (wait until you see the MUD PLAY – stay tuned till next week, friends), chickens, pigs, cows, a pet DEER for heavens’s sake! vegetable beds, fruit trees. and lo and behold: the “WILD WOODS” – a built-in “forest kindergarten”, just a 10 minute walk down a farm road driveway.
