Here we go friends….. The Hands-on-Nature ANARCHY ZONE at the Ithaca Children’s Garden! Woohoo!!
I am super excited to be teaming up with US Fish and Wildlife Service, Cornell University, the Ithaca Children’s Garden, Pop-up Adventure Playworkers Morgan Leichter-Saxby and Sharon Unis, and the kids and families of Ithaca, NY to create the funky wild Anarchy Zone – located within the children’s garden, within the city of Ithaca. Part wild garden, part adventure playground, this space is a totally open-ended area filled with loose parts, natural materials, tools, artstuff, kids and trained playworkers. Stay tuned for all the fun updates and experiences. We’re having a quiet kickoff event May 12…then the big launch celebrating International Mud Day on June 30th! Like it on FACEBOOK to stay in the Anarchy loop….

Wow! I want to play there! Seems like you’ve managed to pull together a pretty diverse group of people as your team, how did you go about it? What a great addition to what I remember as an pretty awesome children’s garden!
Hey Rusty,This looks like a brilliant prcjeot. I think you know my brother John, married to Melody, he lives on Dawes Hill Farm in Spencer .? At any rate, I’d love to talk with you sometime about the work you are doing- I’m currently one year into a Ph.D. focusing on children’s play, specifically looking at adventure play, loose parts play, uk playwork, etc. Also very interested in nature play/ outdoors play. Perhaps if/when I get up to visit John we could meet for coffee or something .would love to check out your Anarchy Zone. All the best,David.

I’ve been way into adventure playgrounds for a while and am psyched to get the Anarchy Zone going as sort of a US pilot – mixing naturalplayscapes with adventure playgrounds+playworkers, etc. Last summer I visited some London adventure playgrounds and went to the IPA conference in Wales – got to connect with lots of playworkers, etc.
Morgan from UK is helping us shape the anarchy zone – have you seen her playwork blog? http://playeverything.wordpress.com/blog/
tell me more!!
